Charles Lovelady 'C. L.' Orr

Funeral for Charles Lovelady "C.L." Orr, 87, of Hartselle was Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle with the Revs. Robert Sparkman and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mr. Orr died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Falkville Health Care Center. He was born March 5, 1917, in Morgan County to Charlie F. and Avis Stover Orr. He was active in the community and at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle where he served as chairman of the board of stewards and finance chairman for many years. He was a city councilman and trustee of F.E. Burleson School, a member of the Athletic Booster Club, the Hartselle Rotary Club for 25 years and helped organize the Boys Little League of Hartselle. He was an active member of American Legion Post 52. He was the owner and operator of Orr Drapery Co. in Decatur. Mr. Orr was a veteran of World War II where he served in the European Theater, Africa, Sicily, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and England. He made three D-Day landings in North Africa, Sicily and southern France. He was the first draftee from Hartselle. Mr. Orr was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert B. Orr.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Patton Orr of Hartselle; two sons, Charles David Orr and wife Vennessia and John Pat Orr and wife Candy, all of Hartselle; one daughter, Dottie Orr Vines and husband Larry of Birmingham; one sister, Ethel Mae Prucnal of Gadsden; six grandchildren, John David Orr Sr., Charles Allan Orr, John Wesley Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and Lurie Lynn Orr Hallford; and five great-grandchildren, John David Orr Jr., Daniel Orr, Jackson Orr, Carden Orr and Jay Hallford.
Pallbearers were John David Orr Sr., John Wesley Orr, Charles Allan Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and James Gordon Hallford III.
