A head-on collision involving two trucks and a car claimed the lives of two of the three drivers on Forest Chapel Road, one mile north of Hartselle, Saturday morning.
The victims were Jeffory Lipscomb, 53, of Hartselle and Ricky Williams, 42, of Moulton.
They were drivers of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup and a 1988 Chevrolet dump truck, respectively. Fred Wallace, 43, of Hartselle was identified as a third driver involved. He was not injured but his automobile sustained damage.
Lipscomb, a Vietnam veteran and a maintenance supervisor, was ejected from his truck. He was transported to Huntsville Hospital by an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter, where he later died.
Williams was pronounced dead on the scene by Morgan Coroner Russ Beard. He was trapped inside the cab of the truck he was driving and had to be removed with the aid of a hydraulic cutting device.
Williams is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol when the mishap occurred, according to a State Troopers accident report. Blood samples were taken by the coroner and submitted to a state toxicology lab for examination.
The victims were not wearing seat belts.
Lipscomb's survivors include his wife, Jean Lipscomb of Hartselle, two daughters, and two grandchildren. He was a native of Morgan County and a U.S. Army veteran of Vietman. He was a maintenance supervisor for the Mundy Corp. in Decatur and was employed by Solutia in Decatur for 25 years.
