Funeral for Jill Rosenau Hicks, 62, of Tuscaloosa will be Thursday, (today) Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. at Forest Lake United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Athens.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Hicks died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. She was a native of Athens but had resided in Tuscaloosa for more than 36 years. She was a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church. She served many local and district leadership roles including being elected twice as a delegate to the Jurisdiction and General Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was past president to the Tombigbee Council Girl Scouts of America and had previously served as secretary of the Southeast Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Women. Church involvement was an important aspect to her, as she participated extensively at the conference, regional and national levels.
She was a graduate of Auburn University where she was a member of the Auburn Marching Band and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She held a Masters degree from the University of Alabama and worked for many years as a counselor in the College of Business Administration and the Career Center. She retired from the Career Center in December 2002. She was preceded in death by her father, David Lee Rosenau Jr. and her mother, Jewell Hertzler Rosenau, both of Athens.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Ray Hicks of Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Jobi Hicks Richard and husband Todd of Plano, Tex.; one son, John Jay Hicks and fiancee Kristi West of Tuscaloosa; one sister, Joy Rosenau Graham and husband Mack of Athens; one nephew, William R. Graham and wife Donna of Smithfield, Va.; one niece, Kathy Vreeland and husband Rob of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Pallbearers in Tuscaloosa will be Davis S. Burton Jr., Thomas P. Hester, Thomas E. Hunter, Hillary Jeffcoat and Bert Jones.
Pallbearers in Athens will include David Wilson, Wayne Wilson, Jackie Greenhaw, Bill Hightower, Jim McCarter and Anthony Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Genecians Sunday School Class, members of the Administrative Council of Forest Lake United Methodist Church, members of IMPACT, Dr. John Summerford, physicians and staff of DCH Cancer Treatment Center and past presidents of Tombigbee Girl Scout Council.
