Feb. 14, 2005 marks the centennial of the birth of Opal Cross Stewart, a resident of Hartselle most of the time from her arrival from Arizona in 1931 until her death in 1985.
1935 -Feb. 10, Opal Stewart is currently the president of the Susannah Wesley circle of the Methodist Missionary Society at the Hartselle First Methodist Church.
1938 -Feb. 11, Opal Stewart hosted the Tuesday bridge club. Other members include Gertrude Bridges, Katherine Cook, Lineta Patterson, Flora Allen, LaUna Pattillo, and Claudine Sample.
1954 -Feb. 11, Mrs. Opal Stewart is the adult leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship group.
1984 -Feb. 11, Mrs. Opal Stewart is now situated in her Spanish Trace apartment following her move from California.
1957 -Feb. 12, Mrs. Opal Stewart is president of the Starlight Garden Club. The new group was formed last summer.
1984 -Feb. 12, Newly organized officers of Pineview Hospital's volunteer ladies are going into high gear with their service program. Ann Melson is president of the group and Opal Stewart is vice president. Betty Parker is volunteer director.
1971 -Feb. 13, Crestline Elementary teacher Opal C. Stewart will retire at the end of the current semester following a distinguished teaching career. Mrs. Stewart has taught in Morgan County schools for 23 years, the last 13 at Crestline.
1905 -Feb. 14, A fourth child was born today to Grant and Irene Cross in Belle Plane, Kansas-Opal Evelyn Cross.
1978 -Feb. 14, Opal Stewart celebrated her 73rd birthday today. It was a mostly quiet day but she received several cards and dear friends called to wish her much happiness.
1927 -Feb. 15, Opal Cross will receive her A.B. degree in English at the University of Arizona during spring commencement.
1975 -Feb.16, Back from a marvelous two-week Caribbean tour on the Sun Viking are Mary Paul Freeman and Opal Stewart. The two report a glorious trip, putting in at St. Thomas, Guadaloupe, Granada, Barbados, San Juan, Curacao, Haiti, and Venezuela.
1980 -Feb. 16, Mrs. Opal C. Stewart's radiant smile has been very much missed since she moved to California last year to make her home with her daughter, Susan, in Rancho Palos Verdes.
