Funeral for James David "J.D." Light, 89, of Falkville was Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Falkville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Weldon officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.
Mr. Light died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at his residence. He was born May 16, 1915, in Marshall County to James Cicero Light and Ada Gardner Light. He was a member of Falkville First United Methodist Church where he directed the choir and taught Sunday school. Mr. Light was a member of the Falkville Lions Club. He taught school in Morgan County for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Alabama Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of the Morgan County Education Retiree Association and a retired member of the AEA. Mr. Light received his bachelor's degree from Florence State Teachers College and received his master's degree from Peabody Teachers College and did his post graduate work at the University of South Carolina and the University of Tennessee. He received the Golden Rule Award for Morgan County in 1999. He was a World War II veteran and served in the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Weismann and husband Jack of Pelham and Susan Hancock of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, John Weismann and wife Brandy, Susan Lee and husband Walt and Carol Spain and husband Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Austin James Lee.
Pallbearers were Walt Lee, Jason Spain, Ken Winkles, Dan Higginbotham, Ronnie Holmes, Randy Holmes and Vance Vest.
