Tigers off to 1-2 start, with win over Hillcrest

The Hartselle Tiger baseball team is off to a 1-2 start after whipping to Tuscaloosa-Hillcrest, 9-4 before falling to Paul Bryant, 10-0, and American Christian Academy of Tuscaloosa, 4-3 on Feb. 21.

Andrew Reeves pitched four strong innings of relief to pick up the win. Reeves allowed five hits, two runs, while striking out three batters. Reeves relieved Chris Russell, who threw three innings allowing two hits, two runs and striking out one. The Tiger pitching staff did not allow a walk.
At the plate, Seth Watson was three-for-three with two runs and two RBIs, while Ja'Cote Ward scored two runs after walking twice. Jordan Parker, Justin Youngblood, Hunter Brasher, Michael Scott had one hit each. Parker scored one run, while Brasher had three walks and Kris Berry walked twice.
Paul Bryant 10, Hartselle 0
The Tigers managed only one hit, a Joe McClanahan single, as the Stampede won easily. McClanahan also drew a walk.
Zack Smith threw three innings, followed by Chase Lusk with one-third of an inning and Steven Chop finished up on the mound for the Tigers with two and two-thirds innings of work.
American Christian Academy 4, Hartselle 3
Seth Watson threw five strong innings but didn't get a decision, as he left with a 3-2 lead. Watson allowed no hits, two runs and issued only one walk. Keith McCaghren worked one inning and allowed a homer to the first batter, a blast that tied the score. The winning run would later score following an error.
Youngblood went two-for-three at the plate, with one run and a RBI, while Watson was two-for-three with a double and a run scored. Parker was two-for-two with a RBI and a walk, while Wiley, Brasher and Justin Hargett had one hit each. Brasher scored once and collected two walks, while Hargett walked three times.
The Tigers travel to Decatur Feb. 25 to take on the Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m.
