The Alabama Department of Transportation has scheduled a pubic meeting on April 21 to hear views and comments about the proposed construction of a new two-lane road from North Sparkman Street to Hammitt Street, including a new bridge over the CSX Railroad.
The meeting will be conducted at the Hartselle Municipal Building auditorium 5-7 p.m.
Interested parties, including the general public, are invited to share their comments about the project at anytime during the meeting schedule. Drawings and maps of the project area will be available for viewing and representatives of ALDOT will be present to answer questions.
Written comments, which will become part of the official project record, may be made at anytime prior to or within 10 days following the meeting and may be mailed to Johnny L. Harris, Division Engineer, ALDOT, P.O. Box 550, Guntersville, AL 35976-0550.
The $1.5 million bridge replacement and connecting road was approved by ALDOT in 2002. No local matching funds are required. It represents phase I of a proposed four-phase northern bypass, linking Vaughn Bridge Road to Highway 36 E.
Phase I design and engineering began in 2004 and is approximately 60 percent complete. State approval has been granted for 30 percent of the engineering.
"This is a key step in the developmental process," said Jeff Johnson, project coordinator. "It will enable us to apply to the state for a 60 percent review of the engineering."
