HHS softball remains unbeaten in Area 15

The Hartselle Lady Tigers finished third in their own varsity tournament last Saturday.
Hartselle fell in the semi-finals to Pisgah, 2-1. On Monday night in a key area game, the Lady Tigers topped Russellville, 7-0.
Head coach Shane Alexander was proud of the way the Lady Tigers played.
"The two wins over Buckhorn were big for us," Alexander said.
"They're the defending 5A champs and they returned all their starters for this season, and we go out and beat them twice.
"We're much improved over where we were at the start of this season."
Hartselle 3, Muscle Shoals 0
Breanna Segars threw all seven innings and fanned four while allowing four hits and no earned runs. The win upped the Lady Tigers record to 2-0 in Area 15 play.
At the plate, Sarah Whitlow had two hits, including a double and drove in a run. Jessica Barbrey had a RBI single, while Whitney Collins had a double. Catie Keel had a hit and scored one run, while Segars had a RBI-single and scored one run.

Hartselle 3, Buckhorn 1
The Lady Tigers whipped the defending state champs behind Mary Curtis, who threw six innings of five-hit ball.
Whitlow had one hit and scored twice, while Kayla Orr had a RBI double. Lindsay Robinson had one hit and scored once.
Pisgah 2, Hartselle 0
Segars took the loss against the three-time defending state 2A champions, despite allowing only five hits and striking out three.
Collins and Rachael Fleischman had the only Hartselle base hits.
Hartselle 6, Shades Valley 2
Curtis allowed five hits and struck out two as she improved to 4-2 this season.
At the plate, Orr was three-for-three with a triple, one run scored and three RBIs, while Barbrey had two hits and scored twice.
Shanice Johnson had one hit and scored once, while Fleischman had a RBI. Whitlow had one hit and scored once, while Teresa Staudt had one hit in two trips to the plate.
Hartselle 8, Buckhorn 4
Collins threw five innings of six-hit ball to record the win, while striking out three.
Whitlow, Johnson, Segars and Robinson had two hits each, while Collins and Barbrey had one a piece. Whitlow had two doubles, scored one run and drove in three, while Johnson had a double, a run scored and drove in one. Segars scored twice and had a RBI, while Barbrey had a RBI single. Robinson scored twice and drove in one run, while Collins scored once.
Pisgah 2, Hartselle 1
Curtis suffered the loss in the tourney semi-finals.
She threw seven innings of six-hit ball and struck out seven. She allowed only one earned run.
At the plate, Whitlow had two hits, including a double and scored once, while Orr had one hit and one RBI. Johnson, Collins and Robinson had one hit each.
Hartselle 7, Russellville 0
On Monday night, the Lady Tigers returned to area play with an easy win over Russellville.
Collins improved to 2-0 with four innings of one-hit pitching. She struck out two. Segars threw the final three innings, fanning three batters and allowing only one hit.
Robinson had two hits, scored twice and drove in one run, while Orr had a RBI double.
Collins had one hit and scored twice, while Ashley Womack had one hit, scored once and drove in one run. Elizabeth Stejskal had one hit, scored once and had a RBI, while Staudt had a RBI single.
Hartselle upped its 5A, Area 15 record to 3-0. Hartselle did not face area foe Athens during the tournament and will play them for the first time this season on the road, April 12. The two will meet again on April 19 to make up a rain out.
