April 14, 1955 -Bill Cadenhead, former Crimson Tide football great and husband of a Hartselle girl, the former Rachel Pattillo, has quit his job as football coach at Coffee High in Florence to work in insurance sales.
April 14, 1955 -In a ceremony witnessed by several local co-workers, Werner Von Braun and 102 other German-born scientists and their family members based at Redstone Arsenal became American citizens at Huntsville High today.
April 15, 1955 -This was charter night for Hartselle's new Civitan Club. Officers are R. J. Rea, president; Ernest Ray, secretary; and Charles Rowe, treasurer.
April 15, 1955 -A total of 843 registrants, representing 2,279 total needy people, have signed up in Hartselle to receive free food under the federal surplus distribution program. Countywide, 4,709 have registered, representing 14,332 future recipients.
April 16, 1955 -Morgan County Representative Albert Brewer is a voice crying in the wilderness as far as reforming Alabama's 1901 Constitution is concerned. He's speaking on the subject to local groups but prospects aren't bright for anything happening soon.
April 17, 1955 -Hartselle residents will now be able to purchase their coal and ice at the same location. J. C. Stroup, veteran coal dealer as well as Hartselle fire chief, has bought the Hartselle Ice Company from the heirs of the late E. H. Sharpley.
April 17, 1955 -Students have new water fountains to drink from at Hartselle Elementary School, thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the PTA, ably led by Mrs. E. L. Drinkard, Jr.
April 18, 1955 -An eight-team softball league is in the planning stage for Hartselle during the summer months.
April 19, 1955 -To date Hartselle Red Cross workers have netted a little over a $1,000 in their fund drive. Team leader Hugh F. Penn is doubtful that the original goal of $1,500 is reachable.
April 20, 1955 -Local stogie lovers will soon have a new source of supply for their smokes. The John H. Swisher Cigar Co. hopes to open its new Cullman manufacturing facility by the end of the year.
