Funeral for Helen LaVerne Handley, 80, of Falkville was Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry DeBell, David Bradford and Ron Shelley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Mrs. Handley died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Madison County to Thorton Napolaen Britt and Isey Dyer Britt. She was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she loved being in the bus ministry and helped in picking up children for church. A retired nurse, she was always reaching out to help others. At the nursing home where she resided, she was always caring for others. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had pictures to show. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Handley.
She is survived by four daughters, Sharon Faye Strickland of Falkville, Joyce Laverne Szydlowski of Hazel Park, Mich., Linda Gail Smith of Warren, Mich. and Marilyn Marie Thomas of Metamora, Mich.; two stepsons, Daniel Posey of Huntsville and Bobby Posey of Cullman; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Szydlowski, Mitchell Szydlowski, Greg Szydlowski, Jeffrey Thomas, Wesley Cooper and Ricky Cross.
