On April 23 the MCHS class of 1957 lost its president, Bowes Channell. Bowes was easily one of the finest men to graduate from the old Morgan County High School during the golden decade.
1943 -May 5, Local shoppers in Birmingham recently were Mrs. Dewey G. Channell, Martha Jean, and little Bowes Channell, who celebrated his fourth birthday a few weeks ago.
1956 -May 6, The MCHS junior class has benefited immensely this school year from the leadership provided by one of its most prominent members-Bowes Channell. Bowes is an all-round student, being president of the Glee Club, an MCHS basketball star, and a member of the Junior Civitan and "M" clubs.
1963 -May 7, Mr. and Mrs. Bowes Channell of Auburn will be home soon to celebrate Mothers Day as the guests of their mothers, Mrs. D. G. Channell and Mrs. Zula King.
2000 -May 7, British car enthusiast Bowes Channell is taking a leading role in the promotion of "Drive Your British Car Week" that will be celebrated later this month. His group has secured full cooperation from Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer in publicizing this event.
2003 -May 8, Prominent Decaturite Bowes Channell is being encouraged by people in the community to run either for mayor or a city council position. So far Mr. Channell is expressing reluctance to seek elective public office.
1995 -May 9, Bowes Channell is currently working on an article for the Corvairs of New Mexico newsletter. Mr. Channell will tell his fellow Corvair aficionados that, "Convertibles Don't Have to Leak!"
2004 -May 10, Bowes Channell, a member of the Decatur Planning Commission, is one of the leading advocates for preserving this area's natural beauty. Any interests bringing proposals to the commission that would disturb critical environmental values can expect opposition from Commissioner Channell.
1998 -May 11, Bowes Channell is devoting a lot of time to getting his 1962 Austin 3000 ready for the North Alabama British Motoring Society's Father's Day show a month from now at Decatur's Colonial Mall. (Mr. Channell's car won first place in the show.)
