Funeral for Carroll Wesley Smith Jr., 71, of Somerville was Sunday, May 8, at 4 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Shane Lewis and Melvin E. Brown officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Lawrence County to Carroll Wesley Smith Sr. and Lassie Mable Randolph Smith. While living in Illinois, he worked and retired from Electro-Motive, a division of GM. After returning to Alabama, he was self-employed and worked and retired from Sexton Can Co. in Decatur. He enjoyed working with mechanical things and visiting junkyards and the local Lacon Trade Day. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and especially loved visiting and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Doris Fowler; and a great-grandson, John Luke Dye.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene Wilson Smith; two sons, Norman Carroll Smith and wife Catherine and William Norton Smith and wife Lazelle, all of Somerville; one daughter, Brenda Ilene Wilhoite and husband Andy of Somerville; his mother, Lassie Randolph Smith of Hartselle; one brother, Larry S. Smith and wife Rita of Somerville; one brother-in-law, Joe Fowler of Brunswick, Ohio; three sisters, Carolyn Slaten and husband Burl of Hartselle, Judy Fowler and husband Thomas and Melissa Burnthall and husband, Paul, all of Somerville; eight grandchildren, Brandi Dye and husband, Patrick, Adam Smith, Charlotte Robinson and husband Brian, Jaqueline Smith, Michael Smith, Dustin Free and wife Brandy, Johnny Smith and wife Ashley and Brittney Wilhoite; and three great-grandchildren, Sierra Free, Brooklyn Robinson and Sarah Dye.
Pallbearers were Adam Smith, Michael Smith, Dustin Free, Johnny Smith, Patrick Dye and Brian Robinson.
