Enquirer honored for public service

The effort to raise money for a new fire station has earned the Hartselle Enquirer a top award from the Alabama Press Association.
The Enquirer received the first place award in the Public Service category for large weekly newspapers in the APA Better Newspaper Contest. The Enquirer was recognized for its subscription drive that garnered more than $1,000 for the Hartselle Fire Fund.
"Our entire community should be proud of this award because without its support, it wouldn't have been possible," Publisher Leada Gore said. "Through donations from our readers, we were able to help with funding for the new fire station. Each person that donated was a part of the effort."
Last week, the Enquirer kicked off a new subscription drive. Proceeds from this drive will go to equip a methamphetamine trailer for the Hartselle Police Department.

Seventy-two newspapers submitted more than 3,038 entries for the annual contest. The contest was judged by the Maryland Delaware D.C. Press Association. The awards will be presented at the APA's 143th annual convention this summer.
