Hartselle American takes sub-district

It came down to the last at-bat, but Hartselle American came through in a nail-biting 10-9 victory over Madison Southern to win the District 1 East 3 Sub-district championship. Hartselle was down by one run going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Griffen Steelman led off the inning with a single and stole second before coming around to score the tying run on a single by Troy Harris. Blaine Holt's base hit to right field with two outs scored Harris and gave Hartselle the come-from-behind victory.
Brady Wallace, Prestyn Wallace and Jacob Whitt each pitched two innings in the game, with Whitt picking up the victory. Tyler Phillips, Whitt, Steelman and Harris had two hits each; Levi Tapscott and Thomas Fleischman added a double each and Thomas Penton, Holt and Alston Howard each hit a single. With the victory, Hartselle American moved onto the District 1 Tournament, which began Friday at North Park.
Hartselle American won its first game of the Sub-district 3 Tournament in Flint by defeating Madison Central 8-3 on June 24. Hartselle's Brady Wallace, Prestyn Wallace and Levin Tapscott combined for the win. At the plate, Hartselle was led by Prestyn Wallace with three hits and one run. Philips had two hits and scored a run and RBI, Whitt had one hit and two RBIs, Brady Wallace had one hit and scored a run, Tapscott had two hits and scored a run, Harris hit a triple and had two RBIs, JW Jenkins had two hits and one RBI and run scored, and Howard hit a double and collected two RBIs. Penton and Holt each scored runs.
Hartselle continued its success in the Sub-district 3 Tournament with a five-inning 14-4 win over Madison Southern. Tapscott picked up the win with four innings. Prestyn Wallace pitched a scoreless inning to close out the victory. Hartselle blew the game open with a six-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning, putting the game out of Madison's reach. Prestyn Wallace had a hit and scored a run, Penton had a hit and scored a run, Phillips had two hits and two runs, Whitt had a hit and scored a run, Fleischman had two hits, two run and two RBIs, Steelman had one hit, one run and one RBI, Brady Wallace had two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Harris had a hit, two runs and three RBIs, Jenkins had two hits and two RBIs, Holt had a hit and an RBI, and Tapscott scored two runs.
