Funeral for Rachel Hereford Oden, 87, of Hartselle was Friday, July 1, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Hartselle with the Revs. Robert Sparkman, WG Henry and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mrs. Oden died Wednesday, June 29, 2005. She was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Gurley to Josiah McCracken Hereford and Lucy Emma Butler Hereford. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hartselle where she was active in United Methodist Women and the Haynes Sunday school class. She graduated from Auburn University with honors in 1939. Mrs. Oden was a home demonstration agent in Lawrence and Morgan County and retired as a school teacher in Hartselle in 1978. Her final years were happily spent at Sierra Springs Retirement Home in Hartselle. Her husband of 50 years, Charles C. Oden Sr., preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Charles C. Oden Jr. of Hartselle; two daughters, Martha Jones of Montgomery and Betty Stejskal and husband, Larry, of Fairhope; five brothers, C. T. Hereford and wife, Audra, of Vienna, Va., Tom Hereford of Gurley, Clark Hereford and wife, Madelyn, of Huntsville, Bledsoe Hereford and wife, Bertha, of Huntsville, and Bill Hereford and wife, Carolyn, of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandsons, Mark Stejskal and wife, Kris, of Fairhope, David Stejskal and wife, Mindy, of Montgomery, Scott Stejskal and wife, Holley, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Justin Jones of Montgomery; one great-grandson, Blaine Stejskal of Fairhope; 19 nephews; and 15 nieces.
