Funeral for Russell D. Johnson, 80, of Somerville will be Thursday (today), July 14, at 2 p.m. at Valhermoso Springs Holiness Church with the Revs. Melvin Brown and Donald Trosper officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Morgan County to Marion Dorris Johnson and Evie Maxwell Johnson.
He was retired from Wolverine Tube, Inc., where he worked in quality control.
He was a member of Valhermoso Springs Holiness Church and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII service in the Signal Corp. He graduated from Cotaco High School and attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he studied Business Administration. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved bass fishing and was a big Alabama fan.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cherie Brown Johnson of Somerville; three sons, Monte Johnson of Valhermoso Springs, Randy Johnson of Tuscumbia and Jimmy Johnson of Somerville; three daughters, Linda Case of Scottsboro and Rhea Tilley and Evie Hawkins, both of Somerville; one brother, Lewis Johnson of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Hillis, Cody McCutcheon, Brandon R. Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Brandon H. Johnson, Brian Hawkins, Brandon S. Johnson and Kevin Worley.
