August 18, 1955 -The MCHS band's first practice for the 1955-56 school year was held this evening. Fifteen uniforms have been ordered by Hartselle civic clubs to enable new students to take their place with the marching band. Hollis James is the director.
August 19, 1955 -Fifty-two potential Tiger grid starters held their first official practice session of the 1955 season this afternoon at Sherrill Stadium. Coach Tony Daniel and Coach J. P. Cain are trying to smooth out some problems of size and experience with their squad.
August 19, 1955 -Eighth District Congressman Bob Jones was the principal speaker today as the Morgan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting in Riddle Auditorium on the MCHS campus.
August 20, 1955-Jimmy Long was in Rossville, Ga., tonight for the wedding of his longtime friend and Auburn football teammate, Forrest (Fob) James, Jr. The young Mr. James's bride is a Morgan County girl, Bobbie Mooney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mooney. (Alabama's distinguished former Governor and Mrs. James are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.)
August 21 1955 -Sarah Stephenson Sillavan is Hartselle's new city clerk. The city council has chosen Mrs. Sillavan to succeed Mrs. Hilda Thornhill who recently tendered her resignation.
August 22, 1955 -The Morgan County Training School began classes for the fall term. The principal, Professor I. F. Stallworth, is supported by a very able faculty consisting of Robert F. Henry, Daisy Osborne, Walter G. Osborne, Juanita Hall Turner, Doris L. Wright, Lena Lee Stallworth, W. A. Whetstone, Parnell S. Thomas, Beatrice Whetstone, Lucille White, and Earline Wiggins.
August 23, 1955 -Dorothy Nell Alford, a young girl who lives on Falkville 1, sustained severe burns at noon today while she was helping her mother in the kitchen. A pot of boiling potatoes capsized and the mixture drenched Dorothy's head. Attendants at Hartselle's Lavender Clinic are unable to say at this point whether she will lose her sight or not. It is touch and go.
August 24, 1955 -Bobby Cain is currently in Lafayette, Indiana, where he is participating in the National Conference of Methodist Youth.
