Marie Hampton Freeman Vest

Funeral for Marie Hampton Freeman Vest, 90, of Danville was Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Speake with Wayne Turner and Dr. Darryl Wood officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Speake Cemetery.
Mrs. Vest died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1915, in Lawrence County to Samuel Lyons Hampton and Betty Speake Hampton. She was a lifelong member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and an active member of the Ladies WMU and held numerous positions in the church. She was a graduate of Danville High School and Athens State University. Mrs. Vest taught fourth and fifth grades at Speake School for 34 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leldon Freeman and Wesley Vest; one sister, Wilma Pearce; and one brother, Samual Cecil Hampton.
She is survived by one nephew, Allen Pearce and wife Donna of Danville; three nieces, Betty Cross and husband Gemar of Moulton and Sarah Pearce Lark and husband Gary and Martha Pearce, all of Panama City, Fla.; two great-nieces, Carmen Cross Gilley and Becky Pearce Burns; two great-great-nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Joel McCay, Edward Kelso, Willard Cole, Shane Boger, Tom Wiley and Carl Speake.
