A graveside service for Van C. Eaton, 76, of Decatur was Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Hal Daigre officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Eaton died Sept. 4, 2005, at his residence. He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Mississippi to Alton Eaton and Bonnie Moore Eaton.
He was a retired residential contractor and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an original member of the Soul Seekers Quartet.
Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lynn Eaton.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Eaton; a son, Harley Blackwell of Evansville, Ind.; seven daughters, Bonnie Dobbins of Chattanooga, Kathy Eaton and Donna Parker, both of Decatur, Janet Firpo, Vannessa Callahan, and Susan Sartin, all of Hartselle and Carol Merritt of Molino, Fla.; two brothers, Joe Eaton of Decatur and Mike Eaton of Hartselle; two sisters, Hazel Parker of Hartselle and Martha Carroll; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
