Mother arrested for check scheme

A mother who was earlier charged with hindering prosecution in connection with her son is now charged with passing stolen checks.
Judith Ann Taylor, 54, of Falkville, is charged with seven counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. According to Sheriff Greg Bartlett, her arrest follows a month-long investigation that began with the arrest of her son last month.
Taylor's son, Charles Joey Taylor, was arrested following the Aug. 7 robbery of the home of James Vest of Eva.
Vest said he had discovered a burglar armed with pepper spray and a stun gun in his house. Vest tried to detain the burglary but he got away with cash and checks. Charles Taylor was later charged with robbery in the first degree in connection with the incident and his mother was charged with hindering prosecution.
Sheriff's Department officials said while they were investigating the robbery, they discovered that Judith Taylor had allegedly passed forged checks at a convenience store in the Cold Springs area. The check was traced back to a car burglary in Decatur. Numerous personal checks, all of which were reported stolen, were also found to have been passed from various accounts.
Cashiers picked Judith Taylor out of a lineup, which included store surveillance video.
Judith Taylor is charged with eight separate counts of possessing a forged instrument. Her bond is set at $2,350.
