Frontier Days offers fun-filled day

A street parade, antique car and tractor show, live entertainment and drawings for door prizes are among activities planned for the climax of the 17th annual Eva Frontier Days Saturday, Sept. 24.
The parade is a headliner event. It will feature marching bands from Brewer High and Eva Junior High schools, handmade floats sponsored by local businesses and churches, horse-drawn wagons and riders on horses and antique cars and tractors. Many of its participants will be dressed in costumes from the frontier era.
The parade will begin forming at the senior citizens nutrition site on the north side of town at 10 a.m. and begin its 1.5 mile route through the downtown area at 11 a.m. It will make a loop and return to its point of origin.
"We expect to have our biggest crowd of the day for the parade," said Barbara Frost of the Eva Art Guild, sponsor of the event. "It's always exciting and gives the viewer a good picture of our community's history and traditions. We invite everyone to join us, walking or riding."
Live entertainment featuring the Gravel Ridge bluegrass band and Lydia Lambert and Donna Childers is scheduled at noon and 2 p.m. Antique cars and tractors will be on display throughout the day and the event will end with merchants awarding door prizes at a drawing.
Other events include a fun run, baking, quilt square, best dressed, pig calling, frog jumping and cross-cut saw contests, greased pig chase and barbecue pork cook-off.
Crafters and merchandise vendors will be located under a 40 x 60-foot tent, food and refreshments will be available and stringed instrument musicians will perform under the shade trees.
"We'll have something of interest to everyone," Frost said. "It'll be a fun time for the entire family."
