Joy Prince Thomson

Funeral for Joy Prince Thomson, 74, of Decatur was Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Albany Baptist Church in Decatur with her pastor, Dr. Bill Compton, and her son-in-law, Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomson died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at her residence. She was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Gleason, Tenn., to F. C. Prince and Ellen Grogan Prince. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Faye Prince Burkey.
She was a member of Albany Baptist Church (formerly Grace Baptist) where she was active in many leadership roles. For 40 years, Mrs. Thomson served in various positions in Christian education. She was instrumental in the founding of several Christian schools. Whether in the position of teacher, administrator, or principal she provided excellent leadership. The schools in which she served included Grace Baptist Schools, Bethel Baptist School, Hartselle Christian Academy, and Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, as well as schools in the states of Texas and Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Oliver Russell Thomson of Decatur; two sons, Russell Thomson of Decatur and Kenneth Thomson of Taylor Mill, Ky.; two daughters, LaWanda Thomson of Decatur and Ellen Simpkins of Marion, Ind.; two brothers, Ted Prince of Alexandria, Va. and Ray Prince of Heathsville, Va.; a sister, Winnie Mattheiss of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three grandsons, Chad and Corey Thomson and Lucas Simpkins; seven granddaughters, Candi Reynolds, Cassie Manley, Christina Thomson, Skyler Thomson, Natalie Thomson and Mickey and Lindy Simpkins; and two great-grandchildren, Alexia Thomson and Cole Reynolds.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
