Church adopts breezeway, more spaces are available

A local church is doing its part to help keep downtown Hartselle beautiful and relaxing for residents and visitors.
Hartselle Christian Church recently adopted the breezeway area on Main Street through the Hartselle Beautification Association. Its members will work together to help keep it landscaped and maintained throughout the year. The area gives the public a place to rest while exploring the historic downtown business section.
Sparta Cagle, a member of Hartselle Christian Church, said the church was looking for a way to reach out and be a blessing to the community.
"HBA Director Carolyn Wallace told us about this project and said the area had been a little neglected," Cagle explained. "We thought it would be a good place and a nice way to make an impact in the community by giving it some needed attention."
Cagle and other church members spent approximately 80-100 work hours over several months pressure washing concrete, cleaning out flowerbeds, mulching and replanting plants.
"We did little things people might notice and appreciate," Cagle said. "We as a community put our best foot forward by making Hartselle beautiful. Hartselle is a great place to live and this is a great way for people to get involved."
Carolyn Wallace, HBA director, agrees that adopting a space is a great way for individuals, businesses and organizations to make their mark in the community.
"Several spaces in town still need to be adopted," Wallace said. "As the new HBA director, I am still trying to identify spaces that are currently adopted and ones that need to be adopted. But Adopt-A-Space is a great program that just makes our town more inviting to visitors and shoppers and more like home for residents."
Current Adopt-A-Space sponsors include Hartselle Utilities, First American Bank, Hartselle Rotary Club, Peck-Glasgow Agency, United Specialties, The Citizens Bank, Eddie Preuitt Ford and The Par Group.
Adopted spaces and their sponsors include: Hickory and Railroad Street green space, Gary McCaig of Genesis Salon; Highway 31 and Nanceford Road planter and space, Family Security; Hartselle downtown large flower pots, Main Street merchants;
Sparkman Street large flower pots, Kama Salon, Weekday Deli, Patsy's Fabric and Inspired Designs; Highway 31 and Nanceford Road, Family Security; Welcome sign at Highway 31 South, Peck Funeral Home; Welcome sign at Highway 31 North, Hannah's Lawn &Landscape; Industrial Park, L&M Lawn Service; Welcome sign at Highway 36 West, Kathy White Goodwin and family; Main Street downtown breezeway, Hartselle Christian Church; Hartselle Police Station, Hartselle Police Department; Fire Station No. 1, Loy and Faye Greenhill; Sycamore Street green space, Joe Roberts; Sycamore Street green space No. 2, Don Pettus; and Hartselle Public Library, Janis Maxwell.
