A grinch has stolen a little bit of Christmas twice in less than two weeks in downtown Hartselle.
The owners of Nana's Attic, Genesis, Polka Dots, Southern Antiques and Las Vias Mexican Restaurant on Railroad Street purchased and planted 10 Leyland Cyprus evergreens to beautify the sidewalk in front of their businesses in preparation for Hartselle's Christmas Open House and approaching holiday season.
All 10 plants were stolen Oct. 30, replaced by merchants the morning of Nov. 6 for Christmas Open House, and stolen again Nov. 10.
"It's very upsetting to know that we try to make our street look really nice and someone has the nerve to do this," Judy Wolff, owner of Nana's Attic, said. "I'm just outraged that someone would do this to our town. And for it to happen twice is just unbelievable. If some joker has taken them home to his wife, I hope she sees this and turns him in."
A police report was filed after each incident with Hartselle Police Department. To report any information leading to the recovery of the stolen evergreens, contact HPD at 773-6534.
