A graveside service for Dorothy Rodgers Rainey, 82, of Vestavia Hills was Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in Cullman City Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Furr officiating and Ridout Funeral Home of Birmingham directing.
Mr. Rainey died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Medical Center East in Birmingham. She was born May 16, 1923, in Morgan County to Johnny and Annie Mae Higdon Rodgers. She graduated from Danville High School in 1941 and Samford University in 1965. She taught school in Cullman schools, Jefferson County and Vestavia Hills school systems. She was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Rainey was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis W. Rainey; her parents; and a brother, Thurman Rodgers of Oshkosh, Wis.
She is survived by two sons, John David Rainey and wife Stacey of Birmingham and Dennis Rodgers Rainey of Portland, Ore., two grandchildren, Shannon Elise Lombard and Michael Brandon Rainey; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Mytchell Lombard and Abigail Elise Lombard; and two nephews, T. J. Rodgers of San Jose, Calif. and James W. Rodgers and wife Adrienne of Denver, Colo.
