By Staff
Researched by Dr. Bill Stewart
Nov. 24, 1955 -Troy Nunn, Hartselle jewelry man, has been elected grand master of the Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama. This places Mr. Nunn in the highest office of Masons in the state. He is also a member of the Hartselle Rotary Club and the city council.
Nov. 24, 1955 -Jo Ann McKee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman McKee, and Billy Paul Wallace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wallace, were married today at the home of the bride.
Nov. 25, 1955 -Hopes that relief would come on the Vaughan Bridge stalemate, with the state coming to local assistance, have hit a snag. The state offer of help was significantly less than expected after Representatives Bob Gilchrist and Albert Brewer met with Governor James Folsom and his Highway Director, Herman Nelson, last week.
Nov. 25, 1955 -Several Hartselle men returned from a south Alabama deer hunt tonight. The hunters used 16-guage shotguns and were able to bag their limits during the three-day excursion. Participants included Allen, Bobby, and John Tapscott, plus James Fairbanks and R. B. Ryan.
Nov. 26, 1955 -Tiger fans were happy and Crimson Tide supporters were sad due to the outcome of this afternoon's Auburn-Alabama football game in Birmingham. The War Eagles were victorious by a score of 26-0, very close to the 28-0 margin by which the Plainsmen won last year. Hartselle grid enthusiasts at the game included Robert Street and son, Doug.
Nov. 27, 1955 -Carolyn Henderson is serving as president of the girls 4-H Club at Hartselle Elementary School.
Nov. 28, 1955 -The North Alabama Methodist Conference has acquired the lot cornering on Sloss and Short streets from Mrs. Sarah Stephenson Sillavan. This will be the site of a new duplex to be constructed for superannuated ministers.
Nov. 28, 1955 -Ike Groover is sporting a broken nose as a result of a recent accident.
Nov. 29, 1955 -The MCHS basketball Tigers opened their 1955-56 campaign tonight with a win over Eva. The team leader is clearly Bowes Channell who Coach Herman Myers strongly believes is developing into a top-rate center. Free throws by Channell and Howard Johnson provided the game-winning points in overtime. Riddle gym was packed for the game.
Nov. 30, 1955 -Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Drinkard, Jr., entertained their son, Robert, with a supper for his tenth birthday tonight.
