The Tigers found their lineup ravaged by illness, an illness that also affected the team's points standings at the Tiger Duals Saturday at the Pettey Center.
Hartselle finished 1-3, but forfeited four matches (24 points) every time because of wrestlers who were absent due to illness.
The Tigers defeated Buckhorn in the opening match by a score of 48-9, then fell in its three final matches. Hartselle lost to Bob Jones 45-27, Pinson Valley 48-30 and Grissom 71-6.
Scottsboro won the Duals, finishing with a 4-0 record. The Wildcats, considered one of the top teams in the state, defeated Erwin 72-6, Pinson Valley 63-15, Bob Jones 52-31 and Buckhorn 69-9.
Earlier in the week, Hartselle faced Sparkman and Athens in a small meet at the Pettey Center Tuesday evening. The Tigers finished that meet with a 22-3 mark, and all but one of Hartselle's wrestlers were a perfect 2-0.
"All three of us are young teams," Hartselle coach Dan Styles said of Tuesday night's meet. "Athens has been down the last few years, but they're definitely getting better. Having a home match for the first time probably excited our guys a little bit."
The meet Tuesday night was also a chance for Styles to see some old faces again. He was the wrestling coach at Sparkman before coming to Hartselle to replace Keith Corder in May.
JV wrestling continues to improve
