Hartselle holds annual fall sports banquet

Hartselle High School held its annual fall sports banquet Dec. 5, honoring its students who participated in the sports of football, cheerleading, volleyball and swimming.
Senior wide receiver Hunter Corum took home the scholastic award, while senior linebacker Johnny Jones and senior defensive end Joe McClanahan took the honor of team captain.
Jones, who finished the season with 68 tackles, was also named the Tigers' Most Valuable Player.
The banquet also honored those who cheered on the Tigers this season, recognizing Hartselle cheerleaders Halli Dean, Whitney Long and Hope Wallace for being named Universal Cheerleading Association All-Stars.
Dean was also honored with Hartselle's Leadership Award. Wallace took the Academic Award with a 3.976 GPA. Whitley Collins was given the Spirit Award.
Volleyball honored several members of the team that was one of the most successful in Hartselle history.
The Lady Tigers were Area 16 champions, finished with a 54-21 record and came within one game of reaching the state's Elite Eight.
Shan Jones, Jenna Weatherford, Brittni Russell and Lauren Drake were recognized as the team's captains, with Drake winning the Most Valuable Player award.
Members of the team were also honored for finishing at the top of several statistical categories.
Jones won the Most Blocks award with 283. Kayla Orr took home two statistical awards with Most Aces (79) and Most Assists (1194). Mary Virginia Reeves won the award for Best Kill Percentage with 48 percent.
Drake took home the honors for Best Serve Percentage (96 percent), Most Kills (492) and Most Digs (247). Sophomore Dana Lacey was rewarded as the team's Most Improved Player.
The banquet also honored two members of the Hartselle swim team who advanced to the state tournament in Auburn Dec. 10. Tyler Willis finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle and 24th in the 100-yard freestyle and Jack Austill finished 29th in the 100-yard breaststroke.
