Funeral for Jane Nelson Fields, 41, of Massey was Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Parker, Grad Tanner and Jack Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Herring Cemetery.
Mrs. Fields died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at her residence. She was born Rebecca Jane Nelson on Feb. 27, 1964, in Morgan County to James Ralph Nelson and Mary Alice Morris Nelson. She graduated from Falkville High School in 1982, then attended Calhoun Community College and the University of North Alabama on a basketball scholarship. After receiving her Master's Degree, she began her teaching career at Speake High School. She also taught at Hazlewood High School and Eva Junior High School, having retired in 2002.
A wonderful and caring teacher, she taught Physical Education and coached girl's volleyball, softball and basketball. She was a member of Gandy's Cove United Methodist Church and attended McKendree United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Marie Nelson and grandparents, Joe and Bertha Nelson and William and Bettye Presley Morris.
She is survived by her husband, Milford "Sandy" Fields; a son, William Caleb Fields; her parents, James Ralph and Mary Alice Nelson; a sister, June Nelson Graham; nieces, Scarlett Graham and Kimberly and Lillie Smith; nephews, Nelson Graham and Pat Smith; her in-laws, Milford and Verna Mae Fields; sister-in-law, Rixie Fields Smith; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers were Nelson Graham, Pat Smith, Rex Slate, Tim Ward, Chris Bryant, Frank Dougherty, Hank Summerford and Tom Summerford.
Honorary pallbearers were Baxter Bryant, John David Bryant, Don Dougherty, Trevor Turner, Terry Turner, Greg Adams, David Henderson, Homer Jones and Jeff Welsh.
The family offers a heartfelt thanks to family and friends for their love, prayers, and support during Jane's illness. It was Jane's desire that memorials be made to the Jane Nelson Fields Scholarship Fund c/o Community Bank of Falkville, Alabama, to Hospice of Cullman County, McKendree United Methodist Church, Gandys Cove United Methodist Church, or Danville Baptist Church.
