Hartselle man nabbed for theft, methamphetamine
The Morgan County Sheriff's Department has arrested a Hartselle man in connection with more than $10,000 worth of stolen property.
Larry Dean Maples of Hartselle is charged with two counts of burglary in the first degree, one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of possession of marijuana in the second degree and drug paraphernalia.
Bartlett said Maples was arrested after investigators found a safe, rare coins, cash, video games, DVDs, porcelain dolls, NASCAR collectibles, jewelry, wallets and other items believed to have been stolen during a search of his home.
Methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also found at the home.
The search of Maples' home led to the search of three other locations. A rental storage building in Hartselle was found to contain a large amount of items believed to have been stolen. The majority of these items were electrical and plumbing fixtures, floor tiles and ceiling tiles believed to have been stolen from construction sites. Deputies also found a revolver stolen during a burglary in Danville at a Priceville location.
Maples is on parole from Texas. He is being held without bond in the Morgan County Jail.
Garbage rates to stay the same
Hartselle residents won't see an increase in the amount they pay for garbage service when the city takes over collection duties Feb. 13.
Hartselle's City Council has approved the new fee schedule, with the rates staying the same for residential service. The cost will be $9.50 per month per household using one cart; $12 for two containers.
The curbside recycling rate will also remain the same at $2.10 per month.
Extra yard debris containers are available for a one-time cost of $80 each. The city will not charge an extra fee to pick up yard debris.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley said the city is currently in the process of delivering the garbage and yard waste containers to area homes. Residents should not use the containers until Feb. 13 he said.
Tankersley said city workers are delivering down one side of a street and then working their way back up the other side, so not all carts will be delivered the same day.
Commercial customers will pay $9.50 per month for one container and $19 for two. Three-hundred gallon containers are available for $28.50 per month for one or $45 for two.
