Renovations will begin soon at Hartselle High School's cafeteria.
Hartselle School Board accepted separate bids totaling $590,273 for the renovation of the HHS cafeteria at a regular meeting Monday night. E-TECH Construction Co. submitted a bid of $272,673 for the construction phase of the project and Birmingham Restaurant &Supply Co. bid $317,600 for the replacement of kitchen equipment.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said six construction firms submitted bids for the renovation phase of the project while only one firm offered a bid to replace the kitchen equipment.
"I was well pleased," he pointed out.
Board member Kathy Goodwin asked if replacement of the carpet in the dining area could be included in the project.
"We can look into what is best and see what it would cost," Reed stated.
"It's gotten in bad shape," Goodwin said. "I'd like to see us do that."
Dr. Reed said work is scheduled to begin in the kitchen May 1, a month before school is out for summer vacation.
"The dining area will remain open during May and we'll provide satellite lunches," he said. Lunches will be prepared at the Tabernacle cafeteria.
Reed said he expects to have bids on a similar renovation project at Hartselle Junior High School at the board's March meeting.
Both cafeteria projects were put out for bids in March 2005; however, they were rejected by the school board.
The board acted on other matters as follows:
