March 16, 1956 -Bobby Cain, a junior MCHS student best known for his trumpet playing in the MCHS band, won the American Legion oratorical contest recently. It was his second year in a row to come out first in this competition.
March 16, 1956 -The Hartselle mayor and council have decided to put the old 1927 model La France fire truck on the market. The clutch on the truck is bad.
March 17, 1956 -The MCHS senior class is holding a bake sale today in the Kyle Plumbing and Electric building on Main Street. Proceeds will be added to the fund for the seniors' trip to Washington.
March 17 1956 -His MCHS classmates are teasingly saying that Charles Howell has been "bribing" people into giving him birthday presents.
March 18, 1956 -A six months supply of Carnation milk has been gifted to the triplets born recently to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Self by Paul Lee, manager of the Piggly Wiggly super market.
March 19, 1956 -A modern photography studio will be opened in Hartselle soon, according to an announcement made this week by local camera experts Bill Dorr and James "Curly" Roberts.
March 20, 1956 -The junior class play, "We Shook the Family Tree," was presented tonight in Riddle auditorium. Cast members included Joyce Payne, Bud Gibson, Betty Wagnon, Martha Lynn Roberts, Billy Lindsey, Jon Orr Burleson, Patty Jane Montgomery, Ann Hoffhaus, Saralene Bridges, Bowes Channell, Ellen Allen, and Bill Stewart Jr.
March 21, 1956-Local business people are saying that Ollie Camp's recently completed term as president of the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce was one of the most successful leadership stints in a long while. Accolades are also being given to retiring board members M. H. Broom, G. P. Frost, and Jimmie Davis.
March 22, 1956 -President Eisenhower's recent decision to seek a second term despite the heart attack he suffered last year is the subject of a lot of local political discussion. Even without a Hartselle native (John Sparkman) on the Democratic ticket. It is still unlikely that this town will go Republican.
