Surviving cancer is cause for celebration and Hartselle is making plans to honor cancer survivors in a big way.
The American Cancer Society invites all cancer survivors to join in the Survivors Celebration at the Relay For Life Hartselle event May 12, 4:30-5:45 p.m. The celebration, hosted by the Brewer High School JROTC team, will be held at World Harvest Outreach Ministries, 117 Sparkman Street SW.
Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. Each guest of honor will be recognized with a gift and a light dinner. Following the celebration, each guest is invited to celebrate their victory over cancer by walking the Survivor Lap with other cancer survivors in their community and kickoff the city's first Relay For Life event at E.A.R.T.H. Park.
Survivors are asked to RSVP for the Survivors Celebration by May 5 by calling event co-chair Elaine Balch at 773-3633 or 355-5994, or 1-800-ACS-2345.
Relay Hartselle begins Friday, May 12, at 6 p.m. and ends Saturday, May 13, at 6 a.m. Seventeen teams have registered for the event and four more have made verbal commitments.
Virtual teams can also be formed online and donations can be made at www.acsevents.org/relay/al/hartselle.
Teams are holding a variety of fundraisers to help meet the event's $50,000 goal for continued cancer research, education and advocacy:
Flint Baptist Church will host a yard sale bazaar Saturday, April 29, featuring a car wash, bake sale and discounted professional haircuts.
For more information on any of these events, or to learn how to participate in or become a sponsor for the 2006 Relay For Life Hartselle, the city's first American Cancer Society event, contact Elaine Balch at 773-3633 or 355-5994.
The next Relay Hartselle team captains meeting will be Thursday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m. at Hartselle Medical Center in the cafeteria. The next committee meeting will be Thursday, April 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hartselle Medical Center cafeteria.
