May 18, 1956 -Mrs. Lloyd Nicholson and baby daughter have been dismissed from Hartselle Hospital.
May 18, 1956 -One of Morgan County's own entertainers, Gordon Terry, has a starring role in the new film that concluded a two-day run at the Ranch Drive-in tonight. The movie is "Hidden Guns" and the main star is country music giant Faron Young.
May 18, 1956 -The MCHS senior class arrived by train this morning on their trip to Washington, D.C. They will return in time for the final week of school, culminating in the graduation ceremony on May 23. Chaperones for the trip are Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cain, Mrs. Melvin Blackwood, Mrs. J. P. Dunaway, Mrs. William Cost, Mrs. Albert Clemons, and Mrs. J. C. Johnson.
May 19, 1956 -The "dance of the year" as far as MCHS students are concerned is definitely the bop.
May 19, 1956 -Mrs. Tommy Kimbrough will serve as president of the elementary school PTA during the next school year.
May 20, 1956 -Today was the annual decoration Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church.
May 21, 1956 -Numerous Hartselle workers will suffer as a result of the recent decision by Alabama Hosiery Mills, located in Decatur, to cease all operations. The plant has been providing jobs to local residents for three decades.
May 22, 1956 -Edward Summers as president heads a new team of officers elected by the Hartselle Civitan Club tonight in a short session held after a joint supper meeting with the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. Civitan International will also sponsor a Junior Civitan Club at MCHS. Its officers are Bill Stewart, Jr., president; J. T. Copeland, vice-president; Bobby Hargett, secretary; and Bobby Adams, treasurer.
May 23, 1956 -Sixty-seven seniors received diplomas at MCHS graduation exercises held in Riddle Auditorium tonight.
The speaker for the occasion was Dr. Willis Sutton, superintendent emeritus of the Atlanta school system. The valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the class are Virginia Fitzgerald and Johnny Sims.
May 24, 1956 -J. E. Stone, Sr., passed away at his Decatur residence this morning.
One of his four surviving sons is J. E. Stone, Jr., prominent Hartselle businessman.
