Humane Society planning fundraisers

Morgan County Humane Society has announced plans for two fundraisers as it continues its efforts to generate enough money to buy a parcel of land and build and equip an animal shelter, according to Robyn Purdy, executive director.
The society is accepting $2 donations on the giveaway of a quilt that was designed and hand-stitched by members of the Lacey's Spring Senior Community Center. It will be awarded July 5th on a Channel 48 News telecast.
A car wash and bake sale will be conducted at Billy's Exxon Station at the corner of 6th Avenue and 8th Street in Decatur on July 10. HEMSI's search and rescue dogs from Huntsville will be shown demonstrating their training and skills.
"All proceeds from the fundraisers will be put into a fund for our proposed new shelter," Purdy stated.
She also reported that the society now has an African Pigmy goat and is taking it to visit residents of nursing homes and children in hospital wards.
The society meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the old Morgan County Courthouse in Somerville.
