Funeral for the Rev. Charles Slaten, 82, of Somerville was Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Smothers and Ron Manley officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.
Rev Slaten, beloved husband, daddy, and granddaddy, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2006. He was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Morgan County to Robe Slaten and Susie Halbrooks Slaten. He retired as a supervisor from Monsanto and was the former pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn T. Slaten of Somerville; four sons, Jerry Slaten and wife Paula, Don Slaten and wife Patricia, and Ted Slaten and wife Vanessa, all of Somerville and David Slaten of Madison, Tenn.; a brother, James Slaten of Decatur; two sisters, Kathryn Lillback of Fairport Harbor, Ohio and Betty McCarley of Decatur; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
