Hartselle's Jessica Lyle grabbed All-Sun Belt Conference honors after logging a break-out sophomore year as a first baseman for Troy University's Lady Trojans.
She was named to the all-conference second team with a team high .314 batting average. Her average was the seventh best in the conference. She had the third most hits, the second most doubles and led the conference in triples.
Lyle's play in the postseason led to her being chosen as a member of the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team.
She belted four hits, including a home run, scored three times and knocked in five runs.
She posted a .600 slugging percentage and hit .333 with runners on base.
A walk-off, three-run homer by Lyle in the bottom of the seventh inning against Middle Tennessee State University proved to be a tournament highlight. It was the difference in an elimination game at Florida International's University Park.
Lyle sent the first pitch against MTSU righthander Laura Moore to deep right field, just clearing the wall as the Lady Trojans advanced to another elimination game against North Texas.
It was the second hit of the day for Lyle.
Lyle is attending classes this summer and is also working part-time for the Troy University Sports Department.
A former all-star player for the Lady Tigers softball team, she is the daughter of Randy and Cindy Lyle of Hartselle and has a sister, Allison, who recently completed her freshman year at the University of Alabama. Her grandparents are Virginia Sims of Hartselle and Boyce and June Lyle of Decatur.
