Upgrades under way on depot

A $60,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant is being put to use in Hartselle this summer to repair and upgrade The Depot on Railroad Street. A local match of $15,000 brings the total cost of the project to $75,000.
While work both inside and outside of the building is in progress The Depot's community room will be closed to public use. Offices of the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce will continue in use.
The project is under contract to E. Tech Construction for $90,618. Workers already have made roof repairs, installed new copper gutters and down spouts, installed new cabinets and counter tops in the kitchen and installed new hardware on doors. The basement was being dried out on Monday to make way for the waterproofing of walls and the installation of two sump pumps.
Repairs and improvements yet to be done include the replacement of bathroom fixtures, repair of water damage to the ceiling and repainting of interior ceilings and walls and exterior wood.
The project has been in the making for more than two years. The grant was approved in 2004 and architect's plans were completed nearly a year ago.
