Funeral for Joe Speake, 76, of Hartselle was Tuesday, June 13, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle with the Revs. Robert Sparkman and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mr. Speake died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 26, 1929, in Hartselle to Fred Marshall Speake and Vera Watterson Speake. A graduate of Morgan County High School, Mr. Speake retired from BellSouth after 42 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Pelham Speake, Otto Speake, Herschel Speake, Phillip Speake, F.M. Speake Jr., Lamar Speake and Robert Speake; and a sister, Anne Speake Kimbrough Marks.
He is survived by his wife, Lib Peck Speake of Hartselle; two sons, Joe Elliotte Speake and wife Cindy of Birmingham and Charles Marshall Speake Sr. and wife Franke of Eufaula; a daughter, Anne Speake Glasgow and husband Art of Hartselle; a sister, Gladys Speake Glasscock of Hartselle; and five grandchildren, Alden Elizabeth Speake of Birmingham, Mary Kathryn Speake of Destin, Fla., Charles Marshall Speake Jr. of Eufaula and Alice Anne Glasgow and Katie Elizabeth Glasgow, both of Hartselle.
Pallbearers were John Glasscock, David Glasscock, John Payne, Jim Payne, Bob Speake, Jim Speake, Jim Peck and Ed Kimbrough.
Honorary pallbearers were Horace Broom, Sim Howell Jr. and John Lockhart.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hartselle Building Fund or to a favorite charity.
