Parties differ on crossover voting

A wrinkle in Alabama's election policy could come into play during the July 18 primary runoffs.
Alabama's main two political parties, Republican and Democrat, have different policies regarding crossover voting. Crossover voting is defined as a voter who participates in one political party's primary election in the primary and then in the other party's primary in the runoff. Alabama has left it up to the parties to decide on the practice, with different results. The Democratic party doesn't allow crossover voting in the primary. That is, you must have cast a Democratic ballot in the primary in order to vote in the Democratic runoff.
The Republican party allows crossover voting. This means those who cast a ballot in the Democratic party's primary can crossover and vote in the Republican primary.
