J.D. Wynn, a senior at Danville High School, claimed first place in the 4-H Chicken-Que Cook-Off at Auburn University June 27.
The competition involved barbecuing and garnishing chicken halves on a grill or smoker for a specified time. Wynn used a custom-made smoker.
He also was required to explain his cooking methods and procedures with the use of Power Point. In earlier competitions, he won first place at the county level and second place at district competition at Alabama A&M University.
To commemorate his achievement, he was awarded an expenses-paid trip to Louisville, Ky. to represent Alabama at the National Chicken-Que Cook-off next September.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joel D. Wynn Jr. of Oak Ridge, and sister, Amber, were present when he was announced the state winner.
Last month, Wynn represented Morgan County 4-H'ers at a Citizens Focus Conference in Washington, D.C.
