HUNTSVILLE – Three athletes from area high schools participated in the All-Stars Sports Week in Huntsville and they certainly made their presence felt.
In games played at UAH's Spragins Hall Thursday afternoon and evening, Danville volleyball star Lauren Simmons, Hartselle basketball standout Lauren Drake and Priceville hoops star Josh Bedwell each helped their respective North All-Star teams to a perfect 3-0 sweep of the South All-Star competition.
Bedwell, who helped Priceville reach the state's Final Four in Class 2A this past season, was the second-leading scorer on the North team in a decisive 95-88 win over the South. He also contributed two assists, four rebounds and a steal and would arguably had been the North MVP were it not for Decatur's Rico Pickett, a commitment to Alabama who finished with 21 points, five assists and four blocks.
Brewer head coach Sam Brown was one of the coaches on the North, which improved its overall record in the series to 7-3.
In the girls game, Drake saw her team blow out the South in one of the most unbalanced contests in the series' history, with the North taking it 101-65. The Hartselle senior made the most of her 12 minutes of game time, finishing with nine points and six rebounds.
Simmons also shined on the hardwood in the all-star volleyball game, a back-and-forth contest that the North ultimately took by the score of 25-16, 14-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-9. Simmons finished tied for the team lead with 10 kills.
