Fire destroys Washington Circle home

The Charlie Yeager home at 714 Washington Circle was heavily damaged by a fire of unknown origin July 21.
Hartselle firefighters responded to a 911 call from the residence at 5:36 p.m. and arrived at 5:39 p.m., according to Hartselle Fire Chief Steve Shelton.
"The back part of the house was in flames when we arrived and before we got them under control they had spread into the attic," Shelton said. "There was a lot of damage."
Shelton said Mrs. Yeager was in her den watching TV when she heard noises and discovered flames in a screened-in back porch. "We had two engine companies on the scene and requested a backup unit from Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department because of our concern about the heat at that time of the day," he added.
Shelton said Mrs. Yeager got out of her house with her two dogs but one of them got loose and went back inside. Fortunately, a firefighter found it and returned it to its owner.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Shelton said.
