Local swimmers qualify for State

Decatur Aquatics Club took third place overall at the District II Swim Meet in Albertville July 13-15. Approximately 700 swimmers from northern Alabama participated in the event and 30 swimmers from the DAC qualified for state.
Six swimmers won gold medals at the district meet. Rachel Proctor took first place in two events, in both the girls 15-to-18-year-old 50-meter backstroke and the 100-meter freestyle. Blaine Holt took first place in the boys 9/10-year-old 50-meter breaststroke, Faith Vest took first in the girls 11/12-year-old 50-meter backstroke, Ian Cummins took first in the boys 9/10-year-old 50-meter butterfly, Austin Sorrells took first in the boys 11/12-year-old 50-meter butterfly and Tiffany Pittman took first in the girls 9/10-year-old 100-meter freestyle. In addition, DAC swimmers won 10 silver medals and 11 bronze medals.
DAC had 15 individual swimmers qualify for state along with 12 relay teams. Individual qualifiers were Cody Long, David Schartung, Ian Cummins, Blaine Holt, Luke Proctor, Tiffany Pittman, Monica Pistorius, Austin Sorrells, Luke Proctor, Michael Schartung, Faith Vest, Jordan Bruner, Taylor Bean, Rachel Proctor and Anna Tucker. Qualifying as a part of relay teams were Mason Proctor, James Topliss, Alexandra Williams, Caroline Kirsch, Clay Austill, Joseph Topliss, Sarah Roark, Rachel Fredericks, Katie Kohlenberg, Katie Gauthier, Cathryn Schartung, Chase Taylor, Jack Austill, Dallas Kalber and Tyler Willis.
Individual results:
(Boys) 8-and-under: Cody Long – third in 25-meter breaststroke, fourth in 100-meter individual medley, sixth in 50-meter freestyle; David Schartung – fifth in 25-meter butterfly, seventh in 25-meter backstroke; Paul Schartung – eighth in 25-meter butterfly.
9/10-year-old: Ian Cummins – first in 50-meter butterfly, second in 50-meter backstroke and 100-meter IM; James Topliss – sixth in 100-meter freestyle; Connor Sorrells – eighth in 100-meter freestyle; Blaine Holt – first in 50-meter breaststroke, fifth in 50-meter freestyle, seventh in 100-meter IM; Mason Proctor – fifth in 50-meter backstroke, eighth in 50-meter freestyle.
11/12-year-old: Michael Schartung – seventh in 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter IM, eighth in 50-meter freestyle; Clay Austill – second in 50-meter backstroke, eighth in 100-meter IM; Luke Proctor – fourth in 50-meter freestyle, sixth in 50-meter butterfly; Joseph Topliss – fifth in 50-meter freestyle, eighth in 100-meter freestyle; Austin Sorrells – first in 50-meter butterfly, second in 100-meter freestyle, fourth in 50-meter breaststroke.
13/14-year-old: Nate Austill – sixth in 50-meter backstroke, seventh in 50-meter freestyle.
15-to-18-year-old: Tyler Willis – sixth in 50-meter butterfly, seventh in 50-meter freestyle.
(Girls) 8-and-under: Stormy Smith – eighth in 100-meter IM.
9/10-year-old: Caroline Kirsch – seventh in 50-meter butterfly; Monica Pistorius – third in 100-meter IM, 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter butterfly; Tiffany Pittman – first in 100-meter freestyle, third in 50-meter breaststroke, fourth in 100-meter IM.
11/12-year-old: Faith Vest – first in 50-meter backstroke, second in 50-meter breaststroke, third in 100-meter IM; Jordan Bruner – fourth in 50-meter butterfly, sixth in 50-meter freestyle, seventh in 100-meter IM; Rachel Fredericks – eighth in 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly.
13/14-year-old: Taylor Bean – second in 50-meter freestyle, fourth in 100-meter freestyle; Katie Gauthier – eighth in 100-meter freestyle.
15-18-year-old: Anna Tucker – third in 50-meter butterfly, seventh in 100-meter IM; Rachel Proctor – first in 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, fifth in 50-meter butterfly.
