Aug. 3, 1956 -Cadet James F. Stewart III returned tonight from Fort Knox, Ky., where he spent the past eight weeks attending a ROTC training camp.

Aug. 4, 1956 -Local rock and roll fans were eagerly buying up "Hound Dog" today, the latest release by Memphis sensation Elvis Presley.
Aug. 5, 1956 -Mrs. Frances Stewart Bennett, 49, passed away at Hartselle hospital this morning at 11:45, following a long illness.
Aug. 5, 1956 -Rev. Darryl Harris, popular pastor of the Lebanon Baptist Church, began a revival at New Friendship tonight.
Aug. 6, 1956 -Sam Houston underwent an operation this morning at Hartselle Hospital for removal of a cyst on his back. The operation was a success, but Sam faces a month of inactivity as a convalescent.
Aug. 6, 1956 -Today was the hottest so far this year in Hartselle, with the thermometer topping out at an even 100 degrees.
Aug. 7, 1956 -William Bradford Huie was the very interesting program speaker for the Hartselle Rotary Club at today's luncheon meeting. Huie, one of the United States' best known authors in the book field and a Hartselle schoolboy 30 years ago, told the Rotarians that he has come back here to make his home. The most famous of Mr. Huie's books, "The Revolt of Mamie Stover," has already sold five million copies and promises to sell about 15 million.
Aug. 8, 1956 -Over 1,000 members attended today's meeting of the Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op. Eighth District Congressman Bob Jones was the featured speaker. Jones assailed the Eisenhower Administration and asserted that it was trying to destroy TVA.
Hartselle's Moses and Brown Furniture donated a Kelvinator electric range as a door prize.
Aug. 8, 1956 -The Morgan County Foxhunters Association is currently holding its bench show and field trials at Cole Springs. D. L. St. John is secretary of the group.
Aug. 9, 1956 -Rev. and Mrs. Frank Aldridge reached the goal of 65 years of marriage today. Brother Aldridge officially retired in 1939 but he has been continuously active in the work of the Methodist church since that time.
