A memorial service and celebration of life for the Rev. Otto R. Yount, 89, of Hartselle was Monday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at the First Church of God in Hartselle with the Revs. Truman Harris, Charles Brown and Pearl Jenkins officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Rev. Yount died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Deatur General Hospital. He was born May 6, 1917, in Wauseon, Ohio to Charles Yount and Verda Otto Yount. He grew up in Indiana and Pennsylvania. He attended Anderson College in Indiana where he met his wife, Leetus Williams, to whom he was married for 63 years until her death in 2005. He was called to the ministry, together with Leetus, and pastored churches in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, West Virginia, Texas, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. Their retirement years were spent serving as interim pastors throughout the Southeast. They enjoyed the challenge of starting many small churches during this time. They also taught school for over 25 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce DeFranco of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Carol Bond of Opelika; three grandsons, one great-grandson; foster brother, George Manners of Lakeland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Community South Church of God Building Fund in Decatur.
