A Hartselle man is charged with second-degree assault in connection to a scuffle with a Decatur police officer last week.
John David Teague was arrested last weekend at the Southside Library in Birmingham. He was wanted in connection with an Aug. 25 incident involving Decatur officer Marty McCaghren. Police said McCaghren was responding to a call about a forged check when she tried to stop Teague in the parking lot of Bud’s Chevron in Decatur.
McCaghren took Teague to her car in the parking lot and attempted to check him for weapons. Police said Teague ran to his truck. McCaghren followed and attempted to remove him from his car. As she did, police allege Teague struck McCaghren several times and was able to get the truck started.
McCaghren was taken to Decatur General Hospital where she was treated and released.
In addition to the assault charges, Teague faces second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and one count of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle. He is being held on $77,250 bond.
Teague is also wanted in Chilton County on first-degree theft warrants.
