The Osborne, Warren, Oden (OWO) Recreational Center in Hartselle has kicked off its second fall-winter session after school program and announced plans for a new “Seniors Can” program beginning next month.
The program, which will continue until May 23, 2007, provides supervised activities for its participants from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Transportation to the center is provided by school buses and the cost is $100 per student.
Each session is divided into three segments: snack time, 3 to 3:30 p.m.; homework time, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and gym time, 4:30 to 6 p.m..
The center provides snacks for members who can’t afford to buy them from vending machines and homework is required and checked by a staff member after it is completed, according to Burns.
Members are allowed to participate in a variety of gym time activities including basketball, dodgeball and kickball. They also have the opportunity to engage in various arts and crafts projects during the school year as well as to participate in an environmental program.
It will teach students how to create scrapbooks out of paper bags, how to organize pictures for the scrapbook, how to use embellishments and how to make the perfect scrapbooking gift.
Persons interested in participating in any of these programs may register by contacting Burns at 773-6400.
