Joe Max Sobotka, 61, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in Hartselle following a valiant fight against cancer. Mr. Sobotka, a musician/songwriter and U.S. Army veteran, spent most of his productive years in teaching and as a human service professional. Prior to his cancer diagnosis, Mr. Sobotka had worked as a supervisor at Copeland Corporation for Regal Employment in Hartselle.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (McDonald) Sobotka of Hartselle; his son, William Max Sobotka of Hartselle; daughter, Jennifer Price and husband John and grandson, Emerson Sobotka, all of Alabaster; and step-children, Matthew and Sarah Trimble of Hartselle.
A memorial to honor Mr. Sobotka’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel in Hartselle. Rich Thompson, Chaplain for Hospice of the Valley and David McDonald, pastor of Bethlehem Methodist Church of Cullman, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to local school systems and hospices.
