Library naming set for Nov. 12

A public dedication ceremony is being planned to officially change the name of Hartselle Public Library to the William Bradford Huie Library.
The event is scheduled for Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m.
“This is a very exciting time. I feel like the name change will help draw more people to the library and make it a point of interest for tourists.”
She commended city officials, library board members and Friends of the Library for their interest and support.
In keeping with the name change a “Huie Archives” will be established in the library’s old bank vault. Huie novels have already been removed from the shelves and placed in that room.
The renaming of the library in honor of Huie was a proposal made to the library board and city council by Andy Vest a former city councilman, three months ago. His proposal was acted on favorably by the council and plans were initiated to implement the change.
Huie was born and raised in Hartselle and did most of his writing in his home on Barkley Street. He gained a worldwide reputation for his works on World War II and the civil rights movement. His 23 novels sold more than 30 million copies and eight of them were made into movies. He died in 1988.
